I think I would see about a way to block the gap between the motor and the deck though. Seems like a wonderful place for rocks to fly through. I’m thinking something that looks like a carb spacer, only made of wood. It would look ridiculous but would protect your shins (and your cars). Still, getting the jungle cut down first was more critical. :)

Too much parasitic loss driving the wheels, perhaps? The guy I got this engine from says the mower would die if the grass got too thick but I’m guessing that’s because he had it in full-tilt self-powered mode and the wheels were dragging the engine down moreso than the grass itself.

probably. Its a little briggs OHV. Its a rear discharge and I have to prop it up for the grass to get out the mower. Bad design IMO.
